About My Work
Simple, graceful, quiet, balanced …..These are the qualities I work toward.
Creating my pottery, I use the most basic tools in the artist’s vocabulary. These have been my tools through the years while drawing and painting and are instinctive for me now as a potter.
I use line and space, scale, contrast, a blank white field to add to, carefully chosen color, and the order of pattern and repetition.
On the all white pieces I let line and space create a play with light. The scale and motion of the carved marks and the texture they create cause light to flicker around the piece as you move to view it. They can seem jewel-like.
The colored pieces ask for a reaction to more visual drama. The lines are rhythmic and march as a moving pattern through solid colors that let them either loudly clang or hum quietly next to each other.
These are peaceful, balanced, self contained objects, to be appreciated and enjoyed equally as a beautiful vase or bowl living on a shelf, or as a working vessel that builds a relationship over time with its owner.
